Colleton County is seeking a dedicated public servant to serve as Deputy Human Resources Director. This leadership role supports the Human Resources Director in overseeing all HR functions for the county, helping ensure effective workforce management, compliance with applicable laws, and delivery of high-quality services to county employees and departments. The ideal candidate brings strong Human Resources experience, sound judgment, and a commitment to ethical, service-oriented leadership.
The Deputy Human Resources Director role is designed to support departmental succession planning by providing opportunities for increased leadership responsibility, strategic involvement, and organizational development experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field; at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in human resources management or a combination of education and experience.
- Experience as an HR Director or senior HR leader in local government strongly preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of HR principles, employment law, and public-sector HR practices is required.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR) or the ability to acquire certification within a reasonable time.
- Experience with South Carolina public employment laws and regulations.
- Proven experience managing complex employee relations issues and organizational change initiatives.
