Colleton County Government is accepting applications from qualified individuals for the position of Mechanic II in the Fleet Management Department. The successful candidate will under general supervision maintain & service light duty trucks, cars, small engines (i.e.: gas powered fans, hydraulic pumps, chain saws, and firefighting equipment), and other County owned vehicles and/or equipment as needed. Will maintain maintenance related records, reports and work orders. Will perform preventive maintenance and repairs on vehicles, equipment and small engines. Will also assist with minor building maintenance and/or repairs as needed.
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Two (2) years of experience as a mechanic working on gasoline engines or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record, submit a three (3) year driving record along with application. The following Standard Certification Requirements are also required:
- CDL Driver’s License
- ASE T-8 Heavy Truck Preventive Maintenance Inspection
- ASE T-4 Heavy Truck Brakes
- ASE A-5 Automobile Brakes
- ASE A-7 Automotive Heating & Air Conditioning
Residency in Colleton County, pre-employment drug screen and a satisfactory background check are also required.
