Colleton County Fire-Rescue's Emergency Management Division is closely monitoring the Edisto River due to historic flooding in Orangeburg County. Both the North and South Fork of the Edisto River in Orangeburg reached record setting heights due massive amounts of rainfall. Citizens along the Edisto River should prepare for the Edisto River to reach Moderate Flood Stage, possibly even Major Flood Stage, in the next few days. Residents are encouraged to prepare now. Any vehicles or campers should be relocated to higher ground, loose outdoor items should be secured, and have a plan to evacuate if necessary. This will be especially important in the low lying areas along the Edisto River.
Colleton County Fire-Rescue’s Emergency Management Division hosted a conference call with local and state partners earlier today, ensuring all emergency support functions are prepared and ready. Additionally, Colleton County Fire-Rescue and the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office have additional personnel and resources available to deploy, if it becomes necessary.
Anyone living along the Edisto River should sign up to receive CodeRed Alerts, and can do so by visiting www.colletonfire.com/codered.
