Colleton County Denied Individual Assistance by FEMA

Colleton County Fire-Rescue’s Emergency Management Division received a letter of denial for the Governor’s request for  Individual Assistance from FEMA for those affected by Tropical Storm Debby.

There is an appeal process; however, Colleton County Fire-Rescue’s Emergency Management Division received no new reports of damages related to Tropical Storm Debby, after conducting the Joint Preliminary Damage Assessment (JPDA) on August 29, 2024. During the JDPA, Fire-Rescue personnel transported two teams of FEMA personnel and visited 80 damaged residences.

It is important to note that the Small Business Administration (SBA) loans are still available to Tropical Storm Debby survivors. The loans are low interest, long-term loans that are designated to repair homes damaged by Tropical Storm Debby. The loans are also payment deferred for one year after they are awarded. Affected residents have until November 18, 2024 to apply. Applications can be completed at sba.gov/disaster or by calling the SBA at 1-800-659-2955.
