Director of Economic Development for Colleton County

Colleton County is seeking a dynamic and innovative Economic Developer to lead efforts in fostering sustainable economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for our community. With Colleton County on the cusp of many commercial and industrial additions, as well as residential developments, this is a pivotal opportunity to shape the future of the county and drive transformative growth for generations to come.
Under limited supervision, plans, develops, markets, and manages all aspects and activities related to industrial and economic development for Colleton County, including product development, business recruitment, existing industry retention and expansion, and community development. Represents the County with other local, regional, and state organizations for economic development. Manages the operations of two advisory boards: The Colleton County Resource and Development Board and the Colleton County Economic Alliance, Inc. Reports to the County Administrator. This position requires visionary thinking, business acumen, real estate prowess and a deep understanding of economic development principles.
Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with extensive work in planning, economics, marketing, or business administration or the equivalent of direct training and experience in economic development.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of direct experience working full time in economic development including recruitment, retention and industrial product development is required. A demonstrated history of positive, established working relationships with economic development professionals, both private and public sector, throughout the State is required.
Professional certifications: CEcD, SCCED, or related economic development coursework such as SCEDS, BEDC, or EDI preferred at time of hire.
Must be fluent on Federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and standards governing the delivery of Economic and Community Development services.
Must be fluent on all social media platforms, Office suites, email platforms, CRMs and possess the ability to adapt to and become fluent in new software programs.
Frequent travel is required. Must possess a valid driver’s license with good driving record and a valid US Passport.
County residency required.
