2024 South Carolina Fire Safe Community Designation

Colleton County Fire-Rescue was awarded the 2024 Fire Safe Community Designation by the South Carolina Fire Marshal's Office. This is the fourth year in a row Colleton County Fire-Rescue has received this prestigious award. Colleton County Fire-Rescue's Fire Marshal's Division develops a community risk reduction plan for the Colleton County Fire District, and the Community Safe Designation is a testament to the Department's efforts to keeping our community safe. Communities designated under this program continuously work to reduce fire related injuries and property damage in our state, thus decreasing the risks for residents and firefighters. There are 433 fire departments statewide, Colleton County Fire-Rescue along with 206 other departments received this award in 2024. Over the last several years Colleton County Fire-Rescue provides and installs smoke alarms for free to residents who live in the County Fire District. "Our Goal is to have these live saving devices in every residence in the Colleton County Fire District. Any resident who has not taken advantage of this free program is encouraged to call Fire-Rescue Headquarters at 843-539-1960," says Fire Chief Barry W. McRoy.
