The Colleton County Accommodations Tax Advisory Board is now accepting funding requests for tourism related activities within Colleton County for 2022-2023. Funding requests that are received and meet the requirements outlined in the funding request application will be considered by the Colleton County Accommodations Tax Advisory Board. On April 6, 2021, Colleton County Council approved Resolution No. 21-R-10, creating the Capital Projects Sales Tax (CPST) Commission. The Commission was tasked with considering proposals for funding capital projects within the County and formulating a question to appear on the ballot in November 2022 to impose a one cent sales tax. The revenues generated by the tax may be used to fund or defray costs of capital improvements which are defined in S.C. Code 4-10-330.

Colleton County is proud to announce the roll-out of our new County website, packed full of mobile friendly features making it easier for the public and our citizens to find what they need and access County resources. Check out this short video demonstrating how useful our website can be from a smartphone or tablet.

Colleton County Fire Rescue was honored at the 2022 South Carolina EMS Symposium by receiving the South Carolina EMS Network Large System of the Year for 2021. We would like to thank our Citizens, County Council, County Administration, and Community Partners for all of the support. Most of all, a huge Thank You to every one of our Personnel both volunteer and Career. The professional manner and precision execution in which you carry out your craft is truly amazing. We are so humbled to be blessed with such great folks. This is truly Your Award.

We excited to share with you a project we have been working on for some time. Next month, April 4-8 is our Colleton County Community Read.  April 8 is the day for 'Big Read'.  If you are interested (and have the available time), and would like to join us by reading a book (library selected) in one of our area schools, please let me know. As a community partner (Library) assisting in the education of our youth, we are excited about this literacy initiative. Check out our video below.

Colleton County Council is in the process of redistricting the County Council Districts based on 2020 Census data. The public is encouraged to review the proposed map. Colleton County Council will conduct a Public Hearing on January 26 at 5:30 PM. The Public Hearing will be held at the Colleton Civic Center Auditorium, located at 494 Hampton Street, Walterboro, SC. Comments will be heard on the redistricting of County Council Districts based on 2020 Census data. Due to Covid-19 precautions, masks must be worn and social distancing must be observed in the meeting.
